There is no wedding without gifts. One of the most sought-after gifts for women in the Rivne region was a red scarf. Folk markets of the whole Polissya, from Volyn to Chernihiv, were brimming with them. The red scarfs became an integral part of the folk costume in the Sarny district as well.
The wedding gifts were mostly practical things: aprons, canvas, scarves, and anything useful for the housekeeping of the new family.
Back to Basics. Wedding project will open for you the whole world of traditional Ukrainian weddings – beautiful, rich, vivid, and very diverse, just like Ukrainian culture as a whole.
Ethnographers, historians, folk costume collectors, artisans, folklorists are featured prominently in this project, allowing you to deepen your knowledge of the Ukrainian folk traditions and their regional variations, all while admiring the stunning handicraft.
