The song Oddavala Maty Doczku (The Mother Gave Away Her Daughter Іn Мarriage) is the second joint work of ethno-singer Svitlana Bulanova and composer Max Velíczko.
The work is based on the eponymous Ukrainian folk song, which the project Baba Yelka recorded in April 2019 during an expedition to the village of Lypniażka, Dobrovelyczkywski district.
It was sung by Olga Semeniwna Piweń, born in 1938, a member of the legendary folk group Czervona Kalína {Red Guelder Rose (Viburnum opulus) — this name, image is very popular in Ukrainian folklore}: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGy28w3XwA8&;t=0s

Alexandr took part in more than 40 expeditions of the Baba Yelka Project and together with another photographer — Michael Andrews — he co-authored a travelling photo exhibition In Search of Native Song.
In the music video are used pictures of a house in the village Korytno-Zabuźke (Wilszanskyj district) where the Holodomor witness Olena Iwaniczenko, born in 1930, lives.
Another ancient photo that can be seen in the music video is a photo of a house in the village of Podorożnie (Svitlovodsk district): now the village is flooded by the Kremeńczug reservoir.
This photo is almost the only witness to the happy life of Vasíl Soldatenko's family, who now lives in the village of Zakhariwka, (Svitlovodsk district) — his reminiscences can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfrBwKuLhtw&;t=0s
The footage that formed the basis of the video was taken in the almost disappeared village of Khajniwka (Oleksandriwka distric), in December 2019 and January 2020.

There, in abandoned houses, we saw dozens of photos lying around under a layer of dust. They can be seen at the end of the clip (now these photos are stored in the ethno-laboratory of the Baba Yelka project).

An important metaphor in the music video of the song The Mother Gave Away Her Daughter Іn Мarriage is the image of a tree of life from a towel brought by the project Baba Yelka from expeditions to the village of Kopanky (Malovyśkiwśkyj district): the work by Anna Teofaniwna Czepliaka, born in 1894).

YELKA [єлька] — such a pseudonym was adopted by ethno-singer Svitlana Bulanova from Kropíwnítskyj in honor of her grandmother: Olena Rybalkina, who was called «Yelka» in the village.
She knew hundreds of folk songs, and also treated people with herbs, raised ten children, experienced the Holodomor… Nevertheless, she started each day with a song and accompanied the sunset with a song.
Each of us has his own «Baba Yelka» — a granny who could not be imagined without a song. They worked with a song, grew with a song, got married and went to the better worlds with a song....

THE BABA YELKA PROJECT
The Baba Yelka project is dedicated to Ukrainian folk songs, their search, preservation, and promotion. Founded in honour of grandmothers who are living bearers of the Ukrainian tradition.
Modestly living in the most forgotten Ukrainian villages, they have a great wealth - knowledge of lyrics and melodies of folk songs, which are passed from mouth to mouth from generation to generation.
The participants of the Baba Yelka project focus on finding and popularizing authentic songs collected in their native land — that is, in the Kropíwnítskyj region (ex-soviet Kirovograd district) in central Ukraine.
The idea of the project belongs to ethno performer Svitlana Bulanova, journalist and editor of «Nova Gazeta» Inna Tilnova, and PR manager Victoria Semenenko.
The project is implemented with the media support of the regional publication «Nova Gazeta».
