Тайвань — це великий острів за півтори сотні кілометрів від узбережжя материкового Китаю.
Де-факто на його території існує незалежна Республіка Китай, яку ще часто називають просто Тайвань.
Водночас на материку існує Китайська Народна Республіка, яка не визнає існування незалежного Тайваню та вважає його не більше ніж просто сепаратною провінцією
