The Chernihiv region managed to maintain the archaic traditions for quite a while. That is why plakhta, an ancient element of bridal costume, kept its place here for longer. It is a decorated unstitched overskirt, valued due to its intricate creation process.
A groom wore a flower tied with red ribbons and stitched to his coat - chemerka. Here, in Nizhyn district, was a tradition: a bridesmaid had to stitch this flower to the groom’s dress.

Ethnographers, historians, folk costume collectors, artisans, folklorists are featured prominently in this project, allowing you to deepen your knowledge of the Ukrainian folk traditions and their regional variations, all while admiring the stunning handicraft.
