Wedding clothing from the Kyiv region deeply differs from others. For example, instead of traditional Ukrainian shoes - chobots or postols, a bride wore a special kind of heeled shoe.
The bridesmaid was tasked with ensuring that the bride had as much jewelry and accessories as possible. This is why a bride had up to 40 ribbons that covered almost all of her back. Amber necklaces and golden and silver crescent-shaped earrings were extremely popular. Also, the bride wore a coral necklace and silver crosses.
The so-called “Brocard embroidery” was very popular in the Kyiv region. This style appeared because of Henri Brocard‘s perfumery, established in the XIX century. French entrepreneur Henri together with his wife Charlotte came up with an ingenious ad for their goods. Each piece of their soap came with a booklet featuring the brand name and ornaments for cross-stitch embroidery in red and black.
That's how “Brocard embroidery” became one of the central trends in Kyiv fashion, you can find it on almost every piece of clothing.
