Violent wars of the past left a mark on Ukrainian songs.
No one could imagine that in the 21st century these words would speak of our reality again.
Podillya's historical songs performed in this video are:
"Why the field turned black" - a song from Berezivka village, Novoushytskyi district of Khmelnytskyi region.
"Don't you chickens drink, don't you people hear?" - a song recorded in Zeleni Kurylivtsi village, Novoushytskyi district of Khmelnytskyi region.
Performed by Daria Tsvihunova from the youth folk band "Ladovytsi".
WHY THE FIELD TURNED BLACK
Why the field turned black (2)
Because the fire burned it
There is a stone standing on the fire (2)
A falcon is sitting on a stone
Falcon-gentle comes (2)
His sister
Why are you sitting and thinking? (2)
Why don’t you raise your wings?
If only I could, sister, all right (2)
I would raise my wings now, my wings now
I feel so bad, sister
My wings sit quietly
DON'T YOU CHICKENS DRINKS, DON'T YOU PEOPLE HEAR?
Don't you chickens drink?
Don't you people hear?
The Turks attacked the village
Two sisters from the village were stolen
They ride horses themselves
And they are led by thorns
Thorns pierce the legs
And the blood washes away the traces
Take them outside
And cut off their heads
Why cut off the head?
They will lull a baby
Haida, ailulii, Tatar kid
And you are my grandson
I run into the master's room
And hit the faces
