Bringing Forgotten Wood and Steel Back to Life

In a world where almost everything is disposable, I often find myself drawn to old materials and forgotten objects.
Many people would look at the pieces used in this project and see nothing more than firewood, scrap metal, or waste. I see something different. I see history. I see the marks left by the hands that shaped them decades ago. I see stories that deserve to be remembered.
In this video, I transform a collection of weathered and discarded materials into a handcrafted hanging shelf. But for me, this project is about much more than woodworking.
The main piece is an old oak beam salvaged from the clay house where my grandparents once lived. Alongside it are a cracked oak board worn by time, an old forged chain, a rusty hook from a utility pole that once stood in our fields, and an antique forged axe head that I found years ago at a local market.
Each of these pieces has survived generations. Each carries traces of the people who used them, worked with them, and built their lives around them.
Restoring and repurposing old materials takes time. It requires patience, effort, and a willingness to look beyond imperfections. Yet I believe there is something deeply rewarding in giving forgotten objects a second life rather than allowing their stories to disappear forever.
The shelf you will see in this video is not just a functional piece of furniture. It is a combination of craftsmanship, family heritage, and history. Every crack, mark, and texture tells part of a story that continues into the present day.

It has been quite some time since I last shared one of my projects. Life here in Ukraine has changed dramatically, and finding inspiration for creative work is not always easy. Despite everything, we continue to live, work, create, and preserve the things that matter.

I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the friends, partners, and allies around the world who continue to support Ukraine during these difficult times.

Thank you for watching, liking, subscribing, for your comments, and for supporting traditional craftsmanship and handmade work.

Take care of yourselves, and thank you for being here.
