I wrote this a while ago, but only recently I had an opportunity to perform it with my band, Just Sisters, at Barefoots Joe, Union Univeristy.
This song is in Ukrainian, so in order for you to enjoy it, I will provide some context below.
The song written to my grandmother, who also symbolizes Ukraine, as in the whole country. The title of the song is "Why are you looking at me so saldy?" I imagined myself looking at, talking to, and signing to my grandmother, who is across the ocean waiting for me to come back. The verses explore the different ways she has been left alone: her house is empty; she's hungry and lonely. I am, on the other hand, surrounded by different people and different languages; yet, in the last verse I make a promise to return to her, even if it's just for a moment.
It was a privilege for me to perform this with some of my best friends at one of my favorite places in the Unites States - Jackson, TN. It was slightly cold outside, so my guitar and my hands, from time to time, were having a hard time staying on track with the song.
Anyways, if you have read this far, thank you. You are kind. I hope you enjoy the song!
